111th Women's Western Golf Association National Amateur Championship

From June 20 to 25 Sawgrass  hosted the WWGA's National Amateur Championship. Women came from all over the United States as well as Argentina, Canada, Germany, Japan, The Philippines, Puerto Rico, South Korea, Sri Lanka and Trinidad & Tobago. After two days of qualifying rounds, the women were placed into a  Championship Flight of 64 contestants and five additional Flights. They played on an East - West rotation of 6181 yards and a par of 71, as #2 West was altered to a par 4.  The co-medalists of the qualifying rounds were Madison Pressel and Victoria Tanco who each posted a round of 66, a competitive course record. The final round saw Victoria Tanco defeat Emma Lavy to become the Champion. As an aside, Victoria's caddie was on the bag for Angel Cabrera when he won The Masters Tournament in 2009.

It was an amazing event to enjoy at our prestigious club. I hope you all were able to get out to see how well they played our course! Thanks to all of our members who assisted in making this event run so smoothly. Special thanks to Paula Fairley who was the event coordinator.

Sand & Sea Invitiational

Delores Adams and Pat Lyons hosted a wonderful two day event.
This was the 23rd annual Sand & Sea Invitational. Women came from South Carolina, Georgia and Florida to enjoy our beautiful golf course and club. The dinner and lunch were terrific and the course challenged our guests as usual, including an innovative putting contest!
Congratulations on a well run and very enjoyable event showcasing Sawgrass Country Club and our hospitable SWGA members and staff.

Pro - Lady Golf Tournament at Windy Harbor

June 8 was the day three teams from Sawgrass Country Club stormed the Mayport Naval Station's Windy Harbor Golf Club! The white team was Greg's with Grace, Shelia and Lois. The blue team was Beth's with Shirley, Lisa and Lynne. The purple team was Billy's with Paula, Mary Lou and Kathy. We all had fun. We all played well......but the purple team ruled! (Billy shot a 69!) Go Sawgrass!

SUNPUTTERS and SUMMER TEAM

The summer events at Sawgrass are in full swing!
SUNPUTTERS has had two events so far with great participation. The points are mounting with each Tuesday event. Beverly Beck and Beth Yahara are keeping the play interesting and enjoyable. Sign up on ForeTees for the upcoming dates.
SUMMER TEAM has played one event. We hosted Marsh Landing on Tuesday. Our team played very well but came out on the short end of a 24 to 30 point match. On a very bright note, our team sported their new uniforms of apple green shirts with khaki skirts/shorts. We sure looked good on the golf course!  Thanks Paula!
