Appreciation!

It has been two months since our Opening Day and I want to thank all of you for participating and having fun!
Thanks to Rachel Reynoldson, Billy Pomeroy and Stefan Brunt for all you do for all of us everyday.
Mary Lou Bannon has been terrific in her handling of our Opening Day and all of the Play Days we have enjoyed.
Our Member-Guest was a huge success thanks to Linda Tuggle, Tammy Smith and Lynn Dickinson.
Susan Cruickshank was in charge of the Solheim Cup just finished yesterday. Great job.
We have come out in force to play two Team Days for the color coded teams led by Shirley Budden and her team captains. Due to the new format of averaging scores, the margin of difference between teams is small. Play hard!
Last Sunday was our first Couple's Golf outing. We celebrated Military Veterans with special gifts and acknowledgements. We enjoyed a wonderful meal at the Beach Club after golf. Marie Frankiewicz and Lisa Williamson deserve a big thank you.
Club-to-Club chairmen Sherri Lubin and Lois Schwinger have been very busy setting up places for you to go play golf away from Sawgrass. Our club has already entertained women from other clubs and you have had and will have the opportunity to sign up to participate.
I think that is our summary for now. That is a lot of activity for two months! If I have forgotten someone, please forgive me...but let me know.
I ask each one of you to take a moment to thank the committee members who have worked to make your golfing experience at Sawgrass be the best it can be! SWGA is trying to offer events for you to enjoy. It is up to you to watch for upcoming events, sign up, play and have FUN!
We have so much to be thankful for right here in our community of friends. Happy Thanksgiving.

Welcome to another new member of SWGA

Goin' Golfin' USA Member Guest 2010

What a fabulous Member Guest!
On mid-day Monday we greeted our lucky guests and enjoyed pimento and cheese sandwiches and smoothies a la Augusta on the Golf Shop patio. Then we were off to golf courses across the USA! Wonderful weather followed us everywhere we went. Dinner was at the Beach Club with red and white sangria and food stations offering authentic recipes from chefs of other famous golf clubs. Tuesday found us enjoying yogurt, egg sliders and other traditional food for breakfast. We golfed west, south and north across the USA once again. Our return to Sawgrass brought us to a beautifully decorated Atrium and more super food including a featured Sawgrass shrimp special dish.
The chairmen of the event are Tammy Smith and Linda Tuggle with support from Lynn Dickinson. Thank you for your imagination and enthusiasm. The gifts and prizes were outstanding. Congratulations to all of the participants and the winners. Special congrats to guest Jan Gazeley who had her first hole-in-one on 2 south!
Our entire country club staff made us all very proud to be members of Sawgrass CC. Thank you!

Summer Team Finale

On August 30th the team of Rachel, Mary Lou, Paula and Kathy played at San Jose Country Club in the Jacksonville area Pro- Lady Tournament. It was a lovely day and we finished solidly in the middle of the pack!

FYI

Just to keep you updated!
On August 19th the Golf Committee met with Mr. Phil Berry, PGA Certified Professional Employment Consultant, to initiate the club's search for a Director of Golf. The purpose of the meeting was to create a plan and develop a position profile. I was a part of this meeting because I was asked to be the SWGA Chairman. I am enjoying the Golf Committee experience and I feel privileged to take part in the candidate review and selection process.

On August 24 the SWGA Board met to discuss the upcoming golf year. The minutes of the meeting will be posted on the bulletin board in the Locker Room. Thanks to Ginny Elliott, the new Booklets for 2010-2011 are available to you in the Golf Shop. They will also be available at our Opening Luncheon on September 14. Remember to sign up on ForeTees for all upcoming events.
You should have received your invitation to our two day Fall Member/Guest event October 25 & 26. It looks like something I don't want to miss! Sign up now.
Team Day (colors) will be starting October 5th. The teams will be made up on September 28. Shirley Budden is Team Chairman. She will collect $10. per player at Opening Day. New rules! Come to the Luncheon whether you play golf or not!
The first Club to Club event will be held here on September Thursday, 23. Please plan to play. Sign up on ForeTees. We are invited to play at The King & Bear on September 30.

Jennifer Jolly, Director of Food & Beverage called me to acknowledge some misunderstandings and missed communications in the past and to say she and her staff are doing all they can to rectify the situation. They want all of us to be happy with the food and beverage experience at our club. Jen looks forward to meeting more of the women as we start up our new season.

Happy golfing!

Sunputters Celebrate a Great Summer Season

After playing eighteen holes of east/west or west/east the Sunputters gathered at the home of Lynne Scielzo for a wrap up celebration. Chairman Beverly welcomed all and congratulated the players for a wonderful season. Awards were presented with the top player being our own fabulous champion, Shirley! The members of the Summer Team, chaired by Paula, were recognized and commended for their outstanding play in the Jacksonville area by coming in second in the summer long tournament. Head pro Billy and assistant pro Stefan filled in for Rachel who is at a tournament. We all enjoyed food and drinks provided by all the participants. It was a fabulous party! Thanks to all who participated.

Sawgrass Slides In Final

It was a dark and stormy day......
The Summer Team lost to Plantation in a well fought battle of match play at The Champions Club at Julington Creek today. Six women gallantly played through steamy heat, thunder and pouring rain, but, alas, the trophy eluded them this year.
Congratulations to all who played for reaching the finals and finishing second overall!
Thanks to our captain, Paula Fairley, who guided the team all summer long...great job well done.

Summer Team Advances

Six of our Sawgrass Team members took on the challenge of playing Marsh Landing at Selva Marina in the hotly contested semi final match of the season. I am delighted to report that the team of Paula, Kathy, Delores, Indu, Pat and Mary Lou were victorious! Sawgrass is now scheduled to play on this coming Thursday against Plantation who beat Jax Beach in their semi final match. Good luck Team Sawgrass!

Sunputters

What a great summer season! Our chairman, Beverly, has been recovering well from surgery. The Golf Shop has been fabulous in taking the cards, tabulating the results and emailing everyone so we know the standings and points earned. Thank you! The grand finale is Tuesday, August 17th. Please sign up on ForeTees to play and sign up in the locker room to participate in the festive closing luncheon to be hosted by our elegant First Lady, Lynne!

September is coming fast!

Open your September calendar and save these dates.
Opening Day for SWGA 18-holers is Sept. 14. We want everyone to come and play and have lunch. You may enter on ForeTees by choosing your own foursome or be adventurous and sign up by yourself and see who you will be paired with! Either way, the point is to have fun and get back in the swing of SWGA golf with old and new friends.
We will have play days on the 21st and 28th. We have invited ladies from other clubs to join us on Thursday, September 23rd. A Club to Club day. Sherri and Lois, chairmen of Club to Club, are inviting all of you to play that day. Bring three dollars and plan to stay for lunch. Details will be forthcoming. They expect all Thursday groups to join in this event. Plan on it!

It's been a while....

Some updates for you.

The Sawgrass Women's Team has been playing their hearts out! Our team is the current (2009) Champions and we are down to the wire again this year! Our division earned a spot in the playoffs at Hidden Hills on Tuesday, August 3rd and quickly had to field a team to play Hidden Hills at Deer Creek on Thursday, August 5th for the right to go on to the semi-finals. We won! By one point! The players were Delores, Kathy, Indu, Pam, Sylvia and Suzy. The next event will be against Marsh Landing at Selva Marina on Tuesday, August 10th. Go Team!!!

On Wednesday, August 4th, Sawgrass CC had
two teams entered in the Pro - Lady
Tournament hosted by Windy Harbor.
Quinton was assisted by Shirley, Peggy
and Delores (the pink team) and Billy's
team was Linda, Grace and Kathy
(in the yellow shirts). Fun, food and
pretty good golf was experienced by all!

Hot Women!

We are mid-way through June and the temperature is soaring!
Our Sunputters have had three outings with great success and fun. The points are mounting with wins and birdies being scored by many players. Our Sunputters chairman, Beverly Beck is home and recovering from her surgery. Keep up the good work!
Our Summer Team has played three matches. Two at home and one away. Once again, the points are mounting as our girls are really playing hard and showing off our "stuff"! Our chairman, Paula Fairley has put together great teams and has provided encouragement and snacks!

Sand and Sea Invitational

On May 17 & 18 Ginny Fritz & Jane Wolfertz hosted ninety-three women guests from north, south and west to the 22nd anniversary of our Sand & Sea Invitational. Volunteers from our SWGA, our fabulous pro shop (including all of our greeters/bag handlers), multiple chefs and servers and all who smiled and said "Hi" are to be complimented and commended for showcasing Sawgrass Country Club in our special and outstanding way!

TLC

Jane Wright is home recovering from shoulder surgery. She say all is "thumbs up" for her!

Beverly Beck had unscheduled surgery and is currently in intensive care at Beaches.

On The Green

Yesterday Matt Durkee, golf course maintenance superintendent, gave the membership an enlightening informational demonstration on the chipping green. It is amazing what the crews have to do to keep the course the way we like it to be! We need to help by fixing ball marks, sanding divots and maybe picking up our broken tees and throwing them away in a container instead of on the ground.

About me - Kathy Church

That is me on the right! I have been married to John since 1968. We have two children; our son TJ who is married to Rachel and lives in London and our daughter Kerry who is married to Kevin and lives in Manhattan along with our precious grandson, Charlie!
We moved to Sawgrass Country Club at the end of 2006 from Avon, Connecticut where we were members of The Country Club of Farmington for 30 years. I joined the 18 hole group in early 2007. We have found the people of Sawgrass to be among the friendliest and nicest and best people anywhere! The transition to our new life (in this paradise!) was made so much easier because of all of you...so I thank you!
